The Waves That Swallow

62

By kittythedreamer

This poem was inspired by a dream that I had last night...one that I seem to have over and over again in times of stress or uncertainty. A giant wave is waiting out there, waiting to take me over and under...do I let it grasp me...do I give in? Or do I fight and find the shore again?

Desperately swimming for land, struggling to find breath
All was quiet and calm just seconds beforehand

I look up in a moment of sheer terror and see my fears take shape
Into the ugly, monstrous form of a wave

So large it could swallow towns in its path
But coming forth to take me down

To swallow me whole, drown me in its deathly grip
The wave overtakes me and pulls me under...

To my watery grave

I fight against its force and ungodly power
Pulling myself towards the surface

Though I can't find which way is up
I push and pull against the ocean

Energy focused on finding oxygen
My entire might searching for a breakthrough

Then...all is calm again
The waves have diminished

Leaving me to fend again for myself
leaving me to my own wiles and destruction

Yeah, I can relate to this poem, I grew up on an Island off the west coast of Ireland so seeing the power of the Atlantic ocean every day alway keeps that fear of a massive wave embedded in the back of my head...really cool poem!

Wow! you must be worn out with your bad dreams. Maybe tonight sleep with one of children or maybe if you have a dog or cat.

Kitty after this dramatic poem I'm imagining what it would be like to see a giant tsunami wave approaching while standing alone on the beach. That's the power of your dream and how you've expressed it here. We're certainly in a time of stress and uncertainly and although I don't know if yours is personal or in general, do wish there was something could write here that might help or alleviate the bad dreams some. Got a feeling though, knowing your strength of character, you'll find a way to do so yourself.:)

Thank you, Lucy.

Adrian - That actually sounds like a beautiful place to live...I've always wanted to visit Ireland. My grandmother's ancestors are from Cork.

Joyce - I sleep with my hubby...that's enough. :)

AP - It actually wasn't a nightmare or even that scary of a dream...just another dream experience that I can chalk up to inspiration and an overview of how I feel sometimes inside or what goes on in my subconscious. Thanks so much! I'll do just fine. :)

I have dreams of flying and they are frightful, but the best thing about dreams is that we wake up.

cleaner3 - Actually, I enjoy every one of my dreams...disturbing or peaceful. I find my dreams to be an altered reality to me...some place else I can learn from and spiritually grow.
