A Ghost Tail (Pun Intended) in Cocoa Beach, FL

It was a beautiful and perfectly sunny day in Cocoa Beach, Florida when we opened the front door to our dream vacation home. With a manicured front lawn, freshly tiled flooring, and crisp atmosphere we knew that our vacation here was going to be one to remember. Little did we know that there was a small yet ever-present ghost vacationing with us...

My daughter, her little cousin, and I were the first three to rush inside of the quiet two-story townhome, eager to explore it in its entirety. My daughter and her cousin ran up the steps and began calling, "Kitty Cat! Kitty Cat! Where are you, Kitty Cat?" I thought nothing of their playtime and figured they both had awesome imaginations. However, later that night, I was standing in the kitchen waiting for the water to fill up my cup. It was dark and my family was upstairs sleeping soundly in their soft beds when I heard something...meowwww...I nearly jumped out of my skin! The meowing sounded as if it came from within the house...from the same room that I was standing in.

I knew there wasn't a cat in the condo so I shot up the steps and jumped into bed with my hubby (if you know me, you know that I love talking and learning about ghosts but when it comes to meeting them, I'm a chicken sh*t!). I put it out of my mind to the best of my ability and went to sleep...all the while wondering if I hadn't been imagining things or if maybe there was a kitten trapped somewhere inside of our vacation home.

A Week of Shadows and Meows

After my first initial experience with a potential ghostly feline residing in our Cocoa Beach vacation home, I decided to keep an open mind and open ears to see if there wasn't a logical explanation to the noises that I had been hearing. I searched the entire townhome, from top to bottom, and found absolutely no sign of a trapped or possibly renegade kitten...so I gave up on my trapped kitten theory and figured I was hearing things.

One night, it happened again....the soft but incessant "meowwwww". The sounds seemed to only be presenting themselves to me alone...my husband didn't notice any signs of a cat or cat noises during our stay in Cocoa Beach; however, another odd event that occurred was that we found a dead rat in our front yard one morning. This was the next morning after my spooky encounter with the disembodied meows.

In addition to the meowing noises, I also heard a baby crying one night...which creeped me out even more. Did a cat live and die in this house? Was it following me around, possibly bringing other ghosts along with it? Did it know that I was aware of its ghostly presence?

Shadows and Flickering lights accompanied my furry paranormal friend. More specifically, one night while my husband and I were in the giant bathroom discussing the day's events, one of the lights turned off right above out heads...we looked at each other in disbelief, "Did you do that?" was the question that we both asked at the same time. Neither of us had touched the light switch, nor were either of us even close to the light switch when the light turned itself off.

Have you had experiences with a pet hanging around after its death? Possibly a pet cat who can't accept the fact that it is dead? My theory is that a previous owner left the cat and the cat passed in the home somewhere...forever waiting for its owner to return and love it once more. Perhaps other vacationers will recognize the cat's presence in the vacation home...but perhaps not...maybe it's just me who notices these things...maybe Cocoa Beach, Florida is a more haunted spot than we could've imagined!

Hi Kitty,

Another wonderful hub and soooo spooky!!! I tend to think that animals accept death much more readily than we do, for them it's just a natural progression, an extension to life. I find animal spirits fascinating and I'm researching a hub at the moment about supernatural animals/pet spirits etc. I'd link to make a link to your hub if that is okay as I think hubbers will find your article fascinating. Many thanks for sharing, voted up + awesome!

Seeker7 - I'm so glad you liked it! I didn't know if it was spooky enough but now I know. I agree, animal spirits are less likely to be found over human spirits but I definitely believe it's possible. Go ahead and link, that would be great. Thanks for your support.
