Stuck in the '50s: Rockabilly Outerwear & Clothing for Winter
The Most Rockin' Rockabilly Coats
Do you consider yourself to be Rockabilly? Or maybe you just love the rockabilly style and flair? Well, this winter you can stay warm and still be "cool" by picking yourself up a rockin' Rockabilly style winter coat. Vintage is a wonderful option for Rockabilly gals, but there are many newly manufactured coats that emulate vintage style for an affordable price. These coats can be purchased online...which means you need not have to go searching the mall or thrift stores for that perfect winter cover-up!
My most favorite winter coat discovered online is the Cheetah Car Coat, which can be purchased from pinupgirlclothing.com for $150.00. How immaculately beautiful is this cheetah-printed coat? It looks unbelievably warm and screams "Vintage!". Wear it over a '50's cocktail dress for those evening events, or wear it over your jeans and button-up shirts during the day. Whichever way, it's worth the hay! (hay is my slang term for money, if you didn't figure that one out). A cheaper option for the animal-print style winter coat can be found at forever21.com for less than $50.00. The length is much shorter than the coat found at pinupgirlclothing.com but the style is duplicated. The choice is yours...are you a cheetah or a leopard?
Next rockin' coat up for grabs is this adorable and extremely classy vintage coat in a dainty vanilla shade. This coat reminds me of something you would see Lucille Ball wearing in "I Love Lucy"...or maybe Doris Day even bundled up in this precious wool number. Allen Company Inc. has it listed on etsy.com for only $52.00! It is in excellent vintage condition and fits like a size medium...although the fit is somewhat more free than normal fitted coats. You do not want to miss out on a deal like this...not to mention that Allen Company Inc. is an amazing vintage vendor, worth saving to your favorites for future vintage grabs.
Okay, I am breaking away from my obsession with the 50's because I simply was commanded by the vintage clothing gods to mention this impeccable, 1930's era vintage princess coat. How unbelievable is a find like this one? I drooled when I saw this coat for sale also at Allen Company Inc. on etsy.com. Even if you never wore this coat, this is a coat worth encasing and displaying in your dressing room! If I had the room in my house, that is exactly what I would do. If you were called to wear this lovely coat, ensure that it is worn with great class and care. A beautiful coat like this one is not easily found and emulates a time when Rockabilly music's roots were barely sprouting with the forerunners of R&B (if you have no idea what I am referring to, do some research on the roots of Rockabilly music...it is actually quite intriguing). Not to mention the gorgeous fur collar on this coat...it is like the cherry on top of the best ice cream sundae you have ever tasted in your life!
Whichever style you decide to go with this winter season, make sure it fits your own personality and wear it with a rockin' pride, ladies!
Kickin' Winter Layering
Because I live in Tropical Paradise, I do not usually have the necessity (or privilege) to purchase many winter accessories or layers. However, like most people in the Northern hemisphere, winter still comes one time a year and layers are usually needed. Check out some of these adorable winter accessories that I have also found online.
A Russian style fur hat from modcloth.com would be a perfect match with the Cheetah Car coat or leopoard print coat posted above. This hat whispers "romantic sleigh ride" to me...if sleigh rides do in fact exist anymore? Another wonderful winter accessory found on modcloth.com is this pair of Girls and Boysenberry Leather gloves. The price is a little bit higher than I would like to pay for a pair of gloves; however, the quality is worth the price...especially for you ladies that live in arctic temperatures. The style of this pair of gloves is that like my grandmother wore back in the 50's (let me mention that she had fantastic taste in clothing and was very much a Rockabilly gal to the apple core).
One layer you cannot forget to wear under your skirt or dress, for style purposes but obviously for warmth purposes, is a darling pair of tights or leggings. I bumped into this pair of leopard print tights on babygirlboutique.com. This pair can be purchased for less than $10.00, but if you are not a leopard-print lover, do take a look at the other leggings and tights available on this website. I guarantee that you will find a pair that you cannot survive the cold without. Another website with vintage-style legwear is charlotterusse.com...demonstrated by the floral lace tights underneath of the leopard print tights - at a price of $7.50!
Last but surely not least, SCARVES. Forever21.com is the best stop-and-shop spot for a variety of vintage-style neck-warmers. My kickin' pick is this soft, blue knit scarf...which comes in other colors to fit your daily mood swings (and swing music). Whatever scarf you choose, be sure that it matches your coat or your hot rod!
Remember Ladies, the point is to stay warm...and cool at the same time!

I love this look. I'm a bit too old to wear most of it but think it is cute.
