Do you fly in your dreams?

Flying Dreams

Have you ever had a flying dream? Flying dreams tend to be recurring types of dreams and can be intensely exhilarating for the dreamer. Many people talk of having flying dreams and also want to know the meaning of flying dreams, as flying dreams tend to be the most memorable type of dreams and are also the most widely searched. In this hub, we will examine some of the most common flying dreams and potential meanings or interpretations for those flying dreams.

Please note that I am not a psychologist, I simply am an avid dreamer and have done a lot of research on dreams in my lifetime. These dream interpretations should be taken and molded to fit your life.

Possible Meanings of Flying Dreams

One of the most common flying dreams to have is a flying dream in which you are flying to escape something or someone in your dream. I, myself, have had this dream many times. It is almost as if you realize "Oh, hey! I can fly in my dreams!" and then you proceed to fly away from an attacker or scary situation within your dream. How could this type of flying dream be interpreted? The first thing you'll want to think about is what is chasing you or what are you flying away from? Is it a person that you know? Is it a monster? Is it merely a scary situation? Examine the surroundings and the details of what you are trying to escape or fly away from. In my flying dreams as a teenager, I flew away from a prison cell in many of my flying dreams. Something was making me feel as though I was imprisoned and I was trying to break free. I realized that I was trying to break free from low self-esteem. Flying in my dream was representative of my independence and breaking free from years of low self-esteem. Could you be flying away from something that is holding you down?

What about when a monster or bad person is chasing you and you are flying to get away from him/her? That monster is most likely representative of someone that you feel is restraining you in your life. If the monster has broken into your home, intruding monsters usually represent an impending illness in the family. Maybe your body is aware that you are getting sick and trying to fight it off. Flying away from the intruder is your subconscious effort to fly away from the sickness.

Another common flying dream is the dream in which you are trying to take off but can't seem to get off the ground. This flying dream can be interpreted as that you are trying to accomplish a goal but feel as though every time you try, you can't seem to get there. Keep trying, you'll make it soon enough!

What about plain old flying through the air and over an ocean flying dreams? These are usually very joyful and exhilarating and leave the dreamer with a feeling of euphoria, even upon waking. You are reaching new heights in your life, maybe in your career, in your relationships, or even within yourself and your own spiritual path.

I liked this hub a lot. I have a lot of dreams that I can recall on waking. Most of them are ways to put away fear, including the flying dreams, which, I must admit, are so joyful I don't want to wake up!

Some of the first dreams I remember were of flying. I had the same recurring dream from about age 3 to 5 or 6.

In it, I suddenly realized that I had long known how to fly and that the essence of that ability was simple and effortless. After flying awhile, I found myself losing my confidence and starting to sink. Below was a dark sea of claws reaching up to snatch at my heals. I would wake up kicking, trying to keep from being touched by the claws.

My own interpretation is that this was a spiritual gift, possibly from my prior life -- a wisdom that may have been one of the few things I could "take with me" across the bardo to this life.

The meaning to me is one of the simplicity and ease of faith compared to the effort of doubt. I have had several lessons this life which were similarly symbolic, but highly influential, and not all of them dreams.

lone77star - My friend, I have gone through these exact feelings so many times. Just two nights ago I dreamt that I was killed in my dream and then I shot up through space into what I assumed was Heaven...and then returned to earth as an angel with feathered wings. So there was a lot of flying going on...which is always a very sacred and spiritual thing to me. I sometimes go to bed at night trying to will a flying dream to happen...thanks for sharing with me. You're explanation of your flying dreams is absolutely beautiful and touching!

Very interesting hub, kittythedreamer! Just like you said, flying dreams are representation of escaping what binds you and of goals what you want to achieve. I feel that flying dreams contain the messages of hope and that God is pointing out that we can choose our destination and we are gifted with free will, so use it best and good. I voted up and interesting and, as I've said, keep writing! Oh! By the way, I noticed there is a huge space between the paragraphs of the subtitles Flying Dreams and the Possible Meanings of Flying ... was it because of the capsule? Okay, just letting you know, because I thought the 1st 2 paragraph of our hub was all it was, then, I scrolled downward. Again, interesting hub!

MonetteforJack - Thanks so much, you are very sweet. I fixed the big space...it was due to the ads reacting against the size of my picture. Minimize the picture and the ads fit better. :) Thanks again!

I've recently started journaling, and one of the things I've been recording is what I dream about. It's very interesting to go back and read what you recorded months ago, and I have always found dream interpretation fascinating. Thanks for posting this ! Voted up and interesting :-)

I totally agree with your interpretations Kitty, and I am also NOT a psychologist or certified in dream interpretation but I think that dreams are very significant and represent how you feel about what is going on in your life. Sometimes we get so caught up in the day to day survival that we aren't even aware of the bigger picture - subtle but significant changes taking place in our lives and that is where dreams can actually help us....Thanks for sharing!

Chatkath - Thanks for agreeing with my interpretations of flying dreams. I've had them for so long, I never get tired of them! They are exhilarating and at the same time, innately spiritual. Do you have flying dreams?
