Easter Eggs - An Easter Tradition

One of my most cherished childhood memories is of Easter and our family's huge Easter egg hunts on a cool, dewy morning lawn. Out of all of the excitement and adventure that came along with Easter egg hunts, I never once stop and thought about the tradition of Easter eggs and how important they've become in the celebration of Easter.

This Easter will be one that you will most likely be spending with your family, either going to Church or playing in an Easter egg hunt. Perhaps you're looking for the perfect Easter egg gifts for a family member that's been especially on your heart this year. Let's take a look at some wonderful ideas for Easter egg gifts for both crafty people and for all of you bakers out there!

Making an Easter Egg Gift - The Crafty Way

There is many different ways in which to make an Easter egg gift. With this project, you can really let your imagination run wild.

Find an ornate Easter box, even one that is shaped like an egg, at a thrift store or a craft store and fill it with Easter goodies such as chocolates, jelly beans, and even those little adorable peeps. Depending on the size of the Easter box, you could really add a bunch of Easter trinkets and things that the gift recipient would really enjoy on Easter. Make sure to buy some Easter faux grass to lay at the bottom of the Easter box, while laying the candy and trinkets on the top of the grass. Tie the box together with a pink, pastel green, or white ribbon.

If you're thinking about putting together a traditional Easter basket as an Easter egg gift for an adult in particular, find a plain wicket basket at a thrift store or craft store. Next, find a cute piece of fabric in Easter colors or with an Easter motif, cut it and sew it to fit on the bottom of the basket and have at least one side long enough to come out and over a side of the basket for decorative purposes (shown in the picture to the right). Next you'll want to decorate the basket by tying ribbons or hot-gluing bows on the handle. Fill the basket with Easter eggs that you've painted or plastic Easter eggs that you've filled with goodies. Or, to make it extra special for adults, fill the Easter basket with brownies or goodies that you've made at home. This makes a perfect Easter egg gift for both children and adults alike!

Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Easter Eggs!

Easter Egg Gifts - Desserts for Easter

Looking for the perfect Easter egg gift for this Easter? Ditch the store-bought candy and desserts and make your own! Here are a couple of my favorite Easter candy and dessert recipes to fill Easter egg gifts with sugary-sweet smiles.

Rice Krispie Easter Eggs

1 c Confectioners sugar
1 c Crunchy peanut butter
2 c Rice Krispies
2 tb Oil
1/4 ts Vanilla

1. Mix together the sugar, peanut butter, rice krispies, oil and vanilla and mold into eggs.

2. Place on cookie sheet and freeze about 2 hours.

3. Dip in chocolate coating to which a small amount of oil or butter may be added.

4. Cool on waxed paper

Petits Fours

Bake White or True Spongecake in shallow pans. When cool cut into tiny squares, diamonds, or Easter egg shapes. Use plain or split, hollow centers, fill with whipped cream or Custard Filling and put halves together again.

Remove any loose crumbs. Place on cake rack with waxed paper under rack. Allow plenty of space between cakes. Pour Fondant Frosting slowly over cakes allowing surplus to run on to paper beneath. Lift cake rack gently, move to a second sheet of paper, decorate as desired and let stand until frosting is firm. Remove cakes with spatula and trim bottom edges with sharp knife. Scrape frosting from papers, reheat and use for other cakes.

To Decorate Cakes - Make flowers, borders, or other Easter designs with colored Ornamental Icing using pastry bag or tube; sprinkle with chocolate shot, silver dragees, colored candies, shaved nuts or colored coconut; or decorate with candied fruit or flowers.

Place Easter Petits Fours in an Easter Basket or colored cardboard egg carton as an Easter egg gift your family member or friend will remember forever!
