Dead Man's Chest
56Sometimes inspiration just hits you in weird moments...even from the most mundane things in life. My family and I are watching Pirates of the Caribbean, and I was suddenly struck with an itchy yearning to write a poem influenced by the idea of immortal pirates and a love that has been truly thrown onto the rocks and dashed to bits.
Fifteen men on a dead man's chest....
Blood spilling over the sides, the moon's rays turning the tides
You watch as the world and what is love passes you by
The waves lap up and over the sides of the blackened boat
Your soul and forgiveness is a hole, a drowned moat
Surrounded by despair and doubt, of which you'll never find out
Guts and glory overtakes you, wretchedness producing gout
Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
Or is it fifteen hearts stabbed by a dead man's wrist?
Death and decay creep up and over your entire being
Anything good has already faded or is dying
Spurting and spouting, the black and redness pours over
The sides of the chest, with moans and darkness under
Seeping from the insides, slowly renching down
A dead man's heart lost by a single, simple frown
Forever destined to sail the seven seas in search
Of one who he loved and lost, fated to be cursed
A hundred broken, necrotic hearts bundled up in a row
A dead man's chest filled with hatred, with nothing of love left to sow
Cold, sopping waves lapping at a withered chance of goodness
Hope is destiny's lost ship, enveloped by a storm of cruelness
Fifteen hearts fill a dead man's chest
Forever cursed by the hatred of one

Voted up and interesting. Great imagery and vocabulary!
Morning Kitty.
A very interesting poem.
I truly liked it, not only as I'm an old sea dog myself but because of your imagination that has gone into this work.
Amazing what you come up with in front of the tele.

Your descriptions are very powerful. I loved the way you work with the popular metaphor. The images are scary but you handle beautifully.
Very powerful poem--very bloody, too, if you can pardon the expression. I don't know if I liked it or hated it, Kitty, but I do recognize the great talent that created it.
Very creative and interesting. You wrote this great poem.
