Dragon Spirit Guide
Connecting with your animal spirit guide can be enlightening and bring out some unknown and unexpected wisdom from deep within yourself. In my last animal spirit guide meanings hub, I discussed the meaning behind having a deer spirit guide. In this animal spirit guide meanings hub, I will discuss the meaning behind having a dragon spirit guide. While a dragon is a mythical creature according to the textbooks and scholars today, in ancient times, dragons were a real belief.
Not only did the Celtic people all over Europe believe in dragons and paint them on their flags and banners, but the Chinese on a total separate continent believed and celebrated this powerful beast...the dragon.
The Celtic people revered the dragon and hence believed that any place on the ground where a dragon's fire had scorched the earth, the herbs that grew from that scorched spot would be most powerful in healing disease and injury.
The Chinese used the Dragon as a symbol of strength, power, and good luck and the dragon was often used as the imperial symbol. The Chinese Dragon was the yang to the yin (the Chinese Phoenix). In Chinese mythology and legend, the most strong and noteworthy warriors and leaders are compared to the Dragon.
So we know a little about what the ancient peoples believed the Dragon to be and what the Dragon meant to their lifestyles and legends, so what does the Dragon spirit guide mean to Shamans and Pagans today? What does the Dragon spirit guide have to teach us and instill in us?
If the Dragon spirit guide has made himself known to you recently, you might have been in awe or possibly even frightened a little. That's to be expected. The Dragon spirit guide is no meek or gentle type of an animal spirit guide...the Dragon spirit guide is fierce and mighty and might appear quite intimidating at first.
Don't be scared by the Dragon spirit guide, he will not hurt you. The Dragon spirit guide might blow fire out of his nostrils and appear monstrous, but he is here to guide you further down your spiritual path.
The Dragon spirit guide brings swift change...he brings transmutation. If you've been in a stale spot in your spirituality or mental growth, the Dragon spirit guide has come to you to show you a new path...to help you in your transformation from the mundane to a more elevated plane. If the Dragon spirit guide comes to you in your dreams, welcome him. Talk to him. Ask him to allow you to ride on his back so that he can take you to the sacred place of transformation.
The Dragon spirit guide is a rare animal spirit guide, but if he comes to you...do not deny him or turn him away. He has much to show you and will take you to a place spiritually in which you are ready to go.

DzyMsLizzy - Thanks so much for reading. Yes, you can have more than one animal spirit guide but usually one in particular will be your chief guide at any given one point in your life. I've had animal spirit guides that change - at one point it was the horse, at another point it was the wolf, at another point it was the owl and now it's the deer. The dragonfly also shows up for me from time to time. And yes, I agree with your husband on the fact that the belief in dragons used to span continents! Thanks again!
Very intriguing. I'm getting the idea that spirit guides come to you. You don't choose them, they choose you. Is that right?
If I could choose one right now, I think it would be a Dragon. There is something so attractive about being so empowered.

Paradise - That is absolutely correct. They always make themselves known to you...but sometimes people miss it because they aren't paying attention or don't know anything about animal spirit guides. :) The dragon is a wonderful animal spirit guide...fierce and strong.
I have had the same dragon spirit guide for all of my life...I'm nearly 40 now. He is a very large red dragon. I dont remember ever having any fear toward him, a healthy respect yes, but never fear. I sensed immediately that this was improper and that he would lose respect for me if I did. We are a balanced set. He teaches me courage and tenacity, I teach him patience. I have been to his world on several occasions, but I am different there. It is a dangerous place, so crafted for me is a set of armor made of shed dragonscale, it has protected me through many adventures. Another thing is that time is not what it is here, that is to say it is not in the same scale. Minutes are like hours. Sorry to ramble, but I thought you might like to hear.
As I sit out in the back yard the dragon spirit has came back to me again every time I see it and feel it talk to me I wonder what do you mean how can I help as I read and learn more I ask myself, why come to me? And tonight he was breathing fire and I ask him what may I do to help you to be happy and to stop destroying everything in your path and how may i help take away the pain and fear? As I tell him it will be okay and ill fix what I can he flies away with no more tears nor fear or pain in his eyes I can conect with the worlds and all of them just want peace and no more raff so please if you read this and understand what im trying to share with the world help us all. My spirit guide has been a large black dragon ever since I can remember. He is beautiful with yellow eyes. He has been there for me when no one else has been. I'm actually in the process of writing a hub about how he helped me through my childhood. I've never been afraid of him, or any of the dragon spirit guides I have. They are beautiful and majestic. Humanity has nothing to fear from dragons. They want nothing more than companionship from us.

i have 2 spirit dragons a water dragon who is blue, she brings healing insight and wisdom, she's the very reason i'm shamantic. the other one is purple she brings sensitivity to spiritual things and kindness.

I have had this strong feeling/attraction towards dragons for many years now, but I never understood why. I have always seen dragons as strong, gorgeous and powerful creatures, and shown respect. Only now did my dragon appear to me. She is so strong. We haven't talked much yet because she made herself known only a week ago. But I hope to soon. :)

i would like to no how to find my spirit guide i no they find you but i just no how to get in a state where they can find me?
There really isn't a particular state where they can find you. You really just have to be open-minded to the messages & signals. Start writing down what you can remember of your dreams and maybe they'll come to you in your dreams as they do with me in my dreams. Or perhaps you'll see the animal all over the place within a given week...in your backyard, in a book you're reading, on television, etc. It's really not about finding them, as you stated, it's about being open and seeing that they are already there with you. :) Blessings and good luck. I found my inner animal just resently and its a baby white dragon but he is sleeping. Is that unusall? It almost feels like he is waiting for something
i have a major operation coming up and for the last few weeks i have been dreaming of a white wolf rideing on the back of a orange dragon has this some sort of meaning.
ian - This is what I found on orange dragons - "Orange Dragons: The will is the color orange. These dragons bring in strength, confidence, and bravery. Fire dragons by nature, they move with quickness. They don't inflate ego's, they merely instill confidence." And this is what I found on white wolves - "To dream of white wolf means valor and victory. You have the ability to see the light even in your darkest hours.". Put 'em together and it sounds like you're going to be just fine!

Fascinating. I'm new on this path, but I feel that one's animal spirit guide (or guides--if you can have more than one?) must be some animal with whom you feel a particular connection or reverence. For me, wolves and cats seem most appropriate; I'm most drawn to them.
As far as dragons go, my husband feels that such creatures or something similar must once have existed, as they are so universally portrayed around the world. Whether they were an actual animal, or a mis-identifcation of something else, there is probably some basis in fact.
